I had the great opportunity to participate in this short documentary for AMREF Health Africa about their campaign against female genital mutilation in Africa.
This film doesn’t only serve the purpose to inform the world about the alternatives, but foremost it is shown to the young girls to present them the ARP Project from AMREF. It is used onsite to explain the girls what ARP means and what they can expect from the experience.
To become an adult woman in Massai culture, 8-14 year old girls undergo an event named ‘Rites of Passage’. Part of these rites is the removal of their clitoris and parts of their labias.
